About Us

Hell’s Kitchen is a historic neighborhood that has long been home for immigrants, Latinx, Asian and Black populations. Its boundaries are widely understood to be West 34th Street to West 59th Street from Eighth Avenue west to the Hudson River.

First referred to in print as “Hell’s Kitchen” in 1881, it has more recently become home to budding artists, actors, singers, bartenders, teachers, police officers, firefighters and small business owners–not to mention a thriving LGBTQ+ community.

This website was created by Hell’s Kitchen residents for Hell’s Kitchen residents to learn how to save our wonderfully diverse community from being split up into three different City Council districts.
